Uphol-Stories: Christie Thompson
Christie, from South Carolina, is a professional photographer working for a major fabric company. But her job extends well beyond photography, she is often creating online crafting content for her company’s clients (think nationally know big box craft/hobby stores).
Her thoughts on our workshop together…
I love of giving old things new life. I’m a crafter at heart and learning upholstery is the grand finale.
My plan for now is to add to my skills and be capable of upholstering for my employer. I would also love to turn it into a side gig.
I love anything crafty and dabble in lots. I love to paint with watercolors and acrylics. On my facebook page, @christie’scraftycorner I share my projects and the supplies needed for them.

My best memory was teaching Nancy how to use her heat gun, it’s just part of my many hot glue gun talents. *
* I’m always learning from my students! One of the perks of teaching!

I found Nancy by searching upholstery workshops. I came upon her page and loved her work so I reached out. I came to this workshop with no prior upholstery knowledge, only armed with the knowledge of how to use a glue gun! I plan to continue my upholstery journey but I need to buy the tools first. The resources list on her website is very helpful. I was so impressed that you had your whole workshop in your garage! It made my wheels turn and start working on a plan to move my husband’s things out of our garage!
My first project will be my grandmother’s rocker, it’s very sentimental.
My mind was blown on the method Nancy taught. I way over complicated it in my mind. Nancy is an amazing teacher. She is patient and explains everything very well.
On a scale of 1-10, Nancy is a 12!
