The Art of Sitting Soft
My Mom would say “Let’s go sit soft.”
She would announce this after a meal and everyone was lingering around the table. It was time to get comfortable. I kind of love this. But where did this come from, I never heard anyone use this phrase other than my mom. So I did some research. Yep, I googled it! Haha!
Here’s the search result:
Our Great Aunt Rosanna was born and brought up in Kentucky, met her husband while working in New York and came to live in the UK just after the 2nd World War. She’s 94 now, and I haven’t really heard her come up with any particular saying, but she does say one thing I adore…. if we’ve just had lunch and we’ve been sitting up at the table nattering for a while, she’ll say “shall we sit soft?”, which means getting off the hard ass chairs and going to the sitting room and armchairs. I love that. [Source: Mrs. O (a blog.)
So my mom didn’t make it up, sitting soft is really a thing!!! So as I apply this concept of sitting soft to my life and to this blog, it just makes sense on so many levels.
- First, it reminds me of my sweet mom!
- Second, it’s all about gathering with family and friends for food, conversation and spending time together.
- It’s all about home and being comfortable.
- And finally in a very literal sense, I attribute this to the furniture I create, because most of all, I want to create furniture that ‘sits soft’.
So now that you know all about sitting soft, I bet you wonder what the heck is Cobani Bleu. Well, once upon a time the internet was a brand new thing. And people were generally timid about putting their real identity out ‘there’. My internet provider encouraged people to use screen names. So I made up the name Cobani. It’s an acronym made from the first 2 letters of my pets names: COdy, BAiley, and NIke. These 3 got their angel wings long ago and there have been many more furbabies since these 3. Not having children of my own, my furbabies are my next of kin!! So this word has always meant family to me. And I knew someday I would have a business of my own and it would be called Cobani. The Bleu is a nod to my LOVE of the color blue and all things French. If you know me at all, you know that color does matter and for me, the only important color is blue!!! Haha!
