A Sunny Chair

What else would you call a chair that is brimming with bright cheerful colors and was designed for a beautiful soul named Sunny? 

Obviously this chair named itself! I mean when the design starts with a fresh and happy chenille bedspread and a quirky Kantha quilt how can you not end up with a sunny disposition. 

So here is where the story started. A sweet woman reached out to me to inquire about having her grandmother’s chair recovered. She had no idea what design direction to take. Working from home which includes many zoom calls, she felt the time was right to spruce up that background. 

Her initial thoughts were for something classic, like tweed or herringbone, after all this is an office chair. But she follows my social media posts and became enamored with some of the more ‘creative’ fabric pairings I post! 

So we began to explore some of these crazy ideas! We had settled on a Kantha quilt and mudcloth combo in shades of greens and teals. I was so happy to have a client that wanted a truly fun and special chair! 

But then I went and posted this.

I immediately got a message from my sweet client! 

“How quickly would I make it to your naughty list if I asked if we can adjust the design to a palette more like the one you just posted?”

So change it we did! This is after all a chair that is very dear to her. And now she’s made it her very own special chair!

This is the best part of my job. Taking a family heirloom and giving it new life. It brings its history to the present to be loved and enjoyed all over again. 

And now my sweet client named Sunny has her own special ‘sunny’ chair.
